Why They Were Banned
The platforms were deemed to violate multiple laws:

Section 67 & 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 – prohibiting transmission of obscene content

Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 – penalizing obscene acts in public view
-
Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 – banning indecent portrayal of women
Authorities noted many platforms ignored prior warnings and continued publishing sexually explicit content even after removals.
Earlier, in March 2024, the government had banned 18 similar OTT platforms, their websites and apps, and suspended associated social media accounts for the same reasons
