Why They Were Banned

The platforms were deemed to violate multiple laws:

• Section 67 & 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 – prohibiting transmission of obscene content

• Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 – penalizing obscene acts in public view

• Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 – banning indecent portrayal of women

Authorities noted many platforms ignored prior warnings and continued publishing sexually explicit content even after removals.
